This successful scheme is now being expanded to last twice as long, with added places for participants and an extra helping of personal and sporting highlights. The aim is to help even more young soccer enthusiasts with hearing loss make progress in their personal development. The event, which is being hosted by Phonak, a leading provider of hearing solutions, and Bundesliga youth team player Simon Ollert, will take place in Ettal, Upper Bavaria, over five days (June 14–18). Simon Ollert is the only athlete with profound hearing loss playing professional soccer in any of the German-speaking countries. This early summer event will see the 20-year-old training up to 45 children between the ages of 10 and 14 from Germany and other European countries. Attendance at the camp has been organized in close cooperation with leading pediatric audiologists.

    In a paper published in the American Journal of Audiology, Professor Linda Thibodeau of the University of Texas describes her findings of a new technology which allows people with hearing loss to hear and understand speech better than those with normal hearing. The finding is evident in cases where conditions are most challenging for people with hearing loss: in noise and over distance. This innovative technology enables hearing aid users to understand speech in high noise and over distance by up to 62%* better than people with normal hearing in the same condition.
