Switch the microphone input so callers can hear you clearly while you still stream audio through both hearing aids.
When Phonak hearing aids are paired with an iPhone, calls default to using the hearing aid microphones to pick up your voice — which can make it hard for the other person to hear you, especially in noisy environments or if you have a soft voice. You can switch to your iPhone’s microphone to fix this problem.
Method 1 — Switch mic during an active call (Quick fix)
Steps
1. Make or accept a phone call as usual.
2. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone to open Control Center. The orange dot at the top indicates the mic is active.
3. Tap Phone Controls at the top of Control Center.
4. Tap the Audio Input section — it will show "Same as System" or "R-Phonak hearing aid".
5. Select iPhone Microphone from the list.
The caller will now hear you through your iPhone mic. You will still hear them through both hearing aids.
Method 2 — Set iPhone mic as permanent default (Recommended)
Steps
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap Sounds & Haptics.
3. At the top of the screen, tap Input.
4. Switch the input from Automatic to iPhone Microphone.
This locks the setting permanently — no need to change it during every call.
Important: Because you are no longer using the hands-free capability of your hearing aids, keep your iPhone within reach. If you walk more than 30–60 ft away from your phone, callers can no longer hear you — though you can still hear them. Also, do not hold your phone while driving in areas where this is prohibited.
