Understanding hearing loss

Hearing health is vital to a person’s overall well-being. In 2015, the World Health Organisation estimated that there were 360 million people with disablling hearing loss globally. Thats around 5% of the population.

Loss of hearing can affect many aspects of life. Asking people to repeat themselves may be awkward or uncomfortable but it is far worsse to simply play along and pretend you heard what was said.

Too many people wait far too long before seeking help with their loss of hearing. Living life to the fullest includes focusing on your hearing health. It is all within reach.

Although, hearing loss affects everyone differently, there are just two main types- conductive and sensorineural.

Conductive hearing loss involves a problem with sound traveling through the outer ear, eardum or middle ear, while sensorineural hearing loss involves the inner ear, cochlea or vestibulocochlear nerve.

At Phonak we have spent 70 years fighting hearing loss and helping to give people back the gift of sound. Find out more about the cutting edge technology that helpss our discreet, high-performance hearing aids create exceptional hearing experiences for our customers.
