Understanding hearing loss

Hearing health is vital to a person’s overall well-being. According to WHO over 5% of the world's population - 360 million people - has disabling hearing loss, and 32 million of these are children. The numbers on average, people with hearing loss wait as long as 10 years before seeking help.

Loss of hearing can affect many aspects of life. Asking people to repeat themselves may be awkward or uncomfortable but it is far worsse to simply play along and pretend you heard what was said.

Although, hearing loss affects everyone differently, there are just two main types- conductive and sensorineural.

Conductive hearing loss involves a problem with sound traveling through the outer ear, eardum or middle ear, while sensorineural hearing loss involves the inner ear, cochlea or vestibulocochlear nerve.
