An audiologist offers services in connection with preventing hearing loss, hearing protection, evaluation and rehabilitation of hearing loss, selection and fitting of hearing aids and other related issues such as communication or balance problems. The provision of audiology services for children with hearing loss is typically a separate field and these services may also be provided by pediatric audiologists.

Based on the hearing evaluation, the hearing aid specialist determines the type and extent of the hearing loss. The hearing aid specialist assists the person with hearing loss in finding the right hearing aid for the individual needs of the person.
