Phonak crea una protección auditiva para suavizar el zumbido de la vuvuzuela.
Como parte de la iniciativa Hear the World,los expertos de Phonak empezaron el debate sobre el daño que las vuvuzelas podían causar en la audición. Cuando midieron el nivel de ruido encontraron que éste era de 127 decibelios, superior a un cortacesped (90 decibelios) y a una sierra mecánica (100 decibelios). El instrumento elegido por los fans Sudafricanos, la vuvuzuela, ha creado cierta controversia entre las autoridades, ya que su elevado nivel de ruido podría cubrir el sonido de señales acústicas de prevención de peligro en caso, por ejemplo, de tener que evacuar el estadio. Ahora, nuevos estudios han relevado que además puede causar daños auditivos inmediatos a los fans y a los jugadores.
