Here we explain the problems associated with diagnosing APD and introduce the solutions Phonak offers to help.

How can APD be diagnosed?

APD is difficult to detect and diagnose, and is sometimes misdiagnosed as ADD/ADHD, Asperger syndrome or other forms of autism. However it is also possible to suffer from APD alongside one of these types of condition.

It is recommended that any potential case of APD is assessed and diagnosed by a multidisciplinary assessment team composed of an audiologist, a speech and language pathologist, an educational psychologist and an ENT doctor.

How can Phonak help diagnose APD?

Phonak’s LiSN-S diagnostic tool is a unique solution designed to assess a person’s speech understanding in the presence of background noise. LiSN-S was developed by Dr. Sharon Cameron and Dr. Harvey Dillon of National Acoustics Laboratories in Australia. Find out more about LiSN-S  here.
